Zine Quest 2020

Hi y’all,

Happy New Year!

I’ve already been hard at work, here at livelygold HQ*, plotting new and exciting adventures for 2020. While I’ll always be bringing you cute accessories, this year is dedicated to creating tools and toys you can use in your own games. I’m so excited to share the first project with y’all now: a zine full of hideouts for your ttrpg adventuring parties.

We all know that every great adventure begins in a tavern, and often these establishments become a home base for our heroes. But what if your heroes get kicked out or need a different type of hideout? Where’s a party to go?

safe & sound is a zine full of special places for your heroes to use when they need to lay low or enjoy some downtime. This zine features 5 potential hideouts that go beyond your basic tavern, and the first is online now for you to play and explore.

These fantasy hideouts are system-agnostic (meaning that they’ll fit in your Pathfinder games as well as Dungeons & Dragons settings) and ready for game masters (GM) to pick up and run. Each location in safe & sound features:

  • A description of the hideout and where it could be found

  • A prominent non-player character (NPC) for the space, including their visual description, how the party might know them, and quests they could send the party on

  • A random effect table of special items or encounters that can occur in the space

  • A map of the space for game masters to adapt or reprint to use in game

I have a special group of collaborators for this project, who each wrote one of the hideouts while I acted as editor and illustrator. Many of the collaborators are from my own adventuring party - I get to experience their creativity first hand, week after week, usually as their GM. And, y’all, I’m so excited that you get to see their brilliance now too.

We’ve already produced a beautiful test print - it’s gonna be amazing.

I’m also working with a local risograph printer, Ipsy Bipsy Studio, to produce these zines - she has a ton of zine making experience and already produced a beautiful test print for us. I know this is going to turn out amazing.

Because this zine is running as a campaign for Zine Quest 2, we’ll be launching February 2, 2020 and running until February 16. This initial run will be small - we only have two weeks to fund it as part of the Zine Quest rules! So I’m hoping y’all will help us get the word out and help bring this zine to life. The majority of funding will go directly to paying the collaborators, while the other half will go to production costs. Most of the design work and lay out is done - we just need to go to print now!

The best way to support us, short of backing the campaign, is to follow it on Kickstarter now, to join the livelygold email list to be notified when it launches, or to follow livelygold on social media (and boosting our posts when it launches!)

Ok, that was a lot. If you play the first hideout, The Composer’s Studio, send me a tweet and let me know what you think!

I’m so grateful for your support and excited to see where we go in 2020.

Xoxo,

livelygold

PS -

I want to say, if you’re a backer of my Rainbow Crit campaign: thank you! As you know, we finished the campaign with all stretch goals met! You’re truly incredible.

I also should say, this Zine Quest campaign will not interfere with fulfillment of the Rainbow Crit campaign. For starters, I use different companies for print projects and for enamel pins. The zine campaign should be fulfilled faster, but that is due to the condensed funding period and the fact that zines take days to print (as opposed to enamel pins, which take weeks to manufacture). If you have any questions or concerns, feel free to reach out on social or Kickstarter.

Thanks again - I am truly so grateful for your support.
